Exterior view photograph. Belgium Pavilion (lot B-311). Although the Belgium Pavilion was in fact a temporary structure, the material combined with its meticulous design gave the pavilion an air of permanence. The parallelogram grid pattern was carried carefully throughout the building in elements such as floor slabs, exhibition cases and even planter boxes. The two storey building was dedicated almost entirely to exhibition space and was fronted by a large entrance foyer. Here, busts of royalty looked down on a collection of books and periodicals. The first floor exhibition spaces featured a Hall of Honors section which displayed ancient royal and religious treasures. A large staircase took visitors to the upper level where the Hall of Fame celebrated 55 famous Belgians from a multitude of disciplines. Modular parallelogram grid plan. Reinforced concrete, structural steel superstructure, concrete filled steel deck floor. Belgian hand made brick with brown solar glass window panels.
