He had written to him. Kind comments about him. Glad Barker liked Thursfield. Delighted by his trip on the Nile. Bewildered by the intellectual development of man 6000 years ago. Mentions Imhotep, the physician of antiquity. Recommends he read "The Spell of Egypt" of Hichens. Flies are responsible, according to him , for 2/3 of the disease. Mentions the ophthalmia cases, the cases of blindness, the hook-worm disease. Comments on his visit to Looss who has not been given enough resources. The school is good, but not the hospital. Egypt did not have successors to Griesinger or Bilharz. Civilities.
