Suggests she take him as physician and playmate of Sylvia in 1913, for this eventual trip. Recommends she read Weigall's book or Breasted's book about Iknnaton, the idealist Pharaoh. Details of the sites he visited. Will sail on the 22nd for Naples and will be home April 1st. Asks her of her Summer plans. Mentions that he shall have to stay at work after this long holiday. He is working on the new edition of his text-book. Civilities.

Letter to Lewellys Franklin Barker from William Osler, S.S. "Seti", Cairo, Egypt. Received his letter of the 21st from Mrs. Osler. Surprised at Hurd's resignation. Hopes it is not a health matter. He had written to him. Kind comments about him. Glad Barker liked Thursfield. Delighted by his trip on the Nile. Bewildered by the intellectual development of man 6000 years ago. Mentions Imhotep, the physician of antiquity. Recommends he read "The Spell of Egypt" of Hichens. Flies are responsible, according to him , for 2/3 of the disease. Mentions the ophthalmia cases, the cases of blindness, the hook-worm disease. Comments on his visit to Looss who has not been given enough resources. The school is good, but not the hospital. Egypt did not have successors to Griesinger or Bilharz. Civilities.
