History

Robert Ernest Chambers was born on August 13, 1857, in Truro, Colchester County, Nova Scotia.

He was a mining engineer with a long career in the steel and coal industry. Chambers was Chief Ore and Quarries Engineer of what would later be known as the Nova Scotia Steel and Coal Company. He played an important role in assessing areas of Newfoundland’s Bell Island and setting up the operation of the new mines in 1895.

In 1877, he married Helen Louise Chambers (1858–1946). He died on April 23, 1929, in New Glasgow, Pictou County, Nova Scotia.
