Kenneth Guscotte Rea (1878-1941) was born in Montreal and studied at McGill University. He received training in architecture as an apprentice with the Montreal architectural firm of Alexander Francis Dunlop (1842-1923). In 1900 Rea moved to Boston where he worked at the architectural firm of Shepley, Ruttan and Coolidge; later, in 1902, he worked in New York City for the firm of Cram, Goodhue and Ferguson. Upon Rea's return to Montreal in 1905, he first found employment with the Montreal Light, Heat and Power Company and later practised architecture independently. During his career, Rea designed a number of bank buildings, including branches of the Royal Bank in Vancouver, Edmonton, and Montreal, and branches of the Bank of Montreal for Quebec City, Vancouver, and Victoria.
