Biographical history

Roger Doucet was born on April 21, 1919, in Montreal and died on July 29, 1981, in Montreal. He was a Canadian tenor best known for singing the Canadian national anthem, “O Canada,” on televised games of the Montreal Canadiens, Montreal Alouettes, and Montreal Expos during the 1970s. He performed a popular bilingual version of the anthem, which began in French and ended in English, in recognition of the two official languages of Canada. In 1980, Doucet was made a Member of the Order of Canada, Canada’s highest civilian honour.
