Letter to Archibald Byron Macallum, May 2, 1916

Letter to Archibald Byron Macallum from William Osler, From the Regius Professor of Medicine, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England. Acknowledgment of his letter of March 30th. He is interested in what Macallum says about the pre-medical year of study. His opinion is that if is given at a good college, four years of professional study would be sufficient, unless they adopt the French plan of making hospital interns of the senior students. The ideal scheme has not yet been worked out. The ideal plan devised by Martin, Welch and Remsen at the Hopkins is too protracted for the pocket of the average student. He will have to deal with the problem on the Welsh Royal Commission. Mentions that they are starting a National School of Medicine at Cardiff. Orpington (hospital) is ready. Hopes that Cameron will remain Surgeon-in-Chief.
