Fonds consists chiefly of the literary papers of Canadian poet Artie Gold as well as some personal and professional correspondence. Many of his drawings are also included. Within the literary materials it contains poems and poem fragments, notebooks, manuscripts, proofs, and publications. The correspondence included is predominantly personal, many with other Canadian poems and literary figures, as well as some professional correspondence related to publication, poetry readings, grants, etc. There are some files of biographical material as well.

Artie's Reply

Consists of a folder containing a poem draft handwritten in pencil, entitled "Artie's Reply." Folder is annotated with notes.

Berkeley poems

Consists of poem drafts, snippets of text and some sketches handwritten in ink. Includes one printed postcard with Artie Gold's sketch.

Fragments and serial pieces

Consists of notecards, notepads and leaves of paper, with poem drafts, snippets of text, some with sketches, typewritten and handwritten in pencil and ink. Includes an envelope with cut-up words and phrases. Snippets of text are handwritten and typewritten on prescription pad leaves, a napkin, and a bookmark.

Letters and Booster and Blaster proofs

Consists of eight letters from the Booster and Blaster managing editor Bryan McCarthy and an article about its launching published in The Montreal Star on January 20, 1972. Includes proofs of the first issue of the magazine Booster and Blaster.

The series consists of a range of materials documenting the Gold's poetic and literary output, primarily between 1968 and 1981. The files include chiefly handwritten and typewritten manuscripts and poetry drafts. Several volumes and leaves of paper contain finalized poems and drafts, with notable works such as Romantic Words and "Even Yr Photograph Looks Afraid of Me." The manuscripts also include significant collections like cityflowers and some of the cat poems. Some items are accompanied by correspondence relating to literary publication, such as letters from Bryan McCarthy, managing editor of Booster and Blaster, as well as proofs and articles related to the launch of the magazine. Other materials include drafts of an article submitted to Books in Canada on the Montreal poetry scene.
